Latex Mattress Topper Reviews

With soaring prices on natural rubber these days (30% increase in 2011 so far) many manufacturers are trying to keep the cost down on these beds by offering only partial latex in the design. For the purest this is probably not the way to go but for the practical person it can offer a good compromise. This base foam would be 5-6 inches and then topped with 3" of either Talalay blend or Dunlop latex Overall height after adding a quilted cover would be around 9.5 inches which is perfect for doing the job and keeping the costs down.

Developed for NASA in the 1970's, memory foam was to provide comfortable support for astronauts at take off and landing, it didn't become available in the shops until the 1990's. Since that time the market has grown and is still growing very quickly, especially as the medical profession recommend its use for the relief of back pain and pressure sores. Although the first manufacturer was Tempur-Pedic ® and used mainly in hospitals, the company soon heard that patients who used the foam, slept better, and they expanded production to sell to everyone. Since then other manufacturers have developed their own memory foam products.

How does it give you help to sleep? Memory foam is visco-elastic which means that it responds to temperature change by becoming softer when it is warm and harder when it is cold. That means that your body warmth softens the immediate area of foam and it moulds to your shape. A word of warning here - with the cheaper, lower density foams, the foam can become as hard as a board when the real cold weather sets in or it might turn into soft goo on hot summer nights! The more expensive brands guarantee that they will perform in the way they should through a wide range of temperatures.

After laying on each of these mattress toppers for an extended period of time (one of the benefits of my job) I found that both toppers do exactly what they were designed to do, cushion the body and provide pressure point relief. I would recommend the “plush” configuration for those who are lighter in weight or perhaps sleep mostly on their side and I would utilize the “firm” model for those who perhaps are heavier or prefer sleeping on their backs. Any way you slice it, these two new items are overwhelmingly at the top of my mattress topper reviews.

First off – Not all Latex Mattresses are the same In fact the majority have very distinct and different characteristics that will greatly impact the final choice for the best latex mattress. Reading user reviews and trying to decide if a particular mattress is right for you is like reading tea leaves. Just because some say that xyz latex mattress is the best does not mean it will be the best for you. In the end, when choosing a latex mattress, it comes down to finding the right mattress for you.
